We have commenced our flu vaccination programme and are inviting cohorts by text message or by letter if we do not have mobile details on file.
We have recently experienced a shortage in vaccinations but we expect a delivery this week. We will therefore arrange further flu clinics upon receipt of the vaccinations. We will be prioritising on patients 18-50 at risk, those categorised as shielding and household contacts of shielders. Vaccination clinics will be run on Tuesday evenings.
This year there will be more reliance on some cohorts being vaccinated through centralised clinics due to the vaccine being offered to a higher number of patients than in previous years. It has long been intended that immunisations were to be provided through centralised clinics and in many other regions of Scotland this is already the case. NHS Highland are working to transition to this model over the next 2 years and the centralisation of some of the COVID and flu vaccinations are a step in this process.
The Surgery will be vaccinating the following cohorts:
- Patients aged 75+
- Patients aged 65-74
- Patients aged 50-64
- Patients who are considered clinically vulnerable aged 16-50
- Household contacts of shielders
Patients who are housebound have been referred to the NHS Community Nursing Team.
Pre-school aged children will also be vaccinated by NHS Highland. The Scottish Government have issued letters to parents of children aged 2-5 regarding their flu vaccination. Please call the number on the letter to book your child into a centralised clinic as the Surgery will not be vaccinating pre-school aged children this year.
School aged children will be vaccinated at school.
Pregnant women will be vaccinated by the midwifery team.
People who work within healthcare will be vaccinated through their occupational health team.
The Surgery will write directly to/text the patients that we are vaccinating to attend the surgery to receive their vaccine. All appointments will be on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Additional cohorts will be contacted directly by NHS Highland with details of their venue and dates/times.
